About the Designer: Giancarlo Piretti As a prolific designer with a great creativity, he designed several iconic pieces of furniture: the “Alky” low chair (1969), the “Plia” chair (1969) and the “Plona” seat (1970). His “Piretti Collection” line presented in 1988 at the NeoCon in Chicago is really incredible. During his career, the designer received many rewards for the Piretti Collection: the pizeces IBD, ASIS, Compasso d’Oro and G-Mark. You can find his designs in many museums, including MoMA in New York Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1940. He attended art schools there and subsequently taught Interior Design. During that time, he was also designing furniture for Anonima Castelli. He still lives and works in Bologna with his son, designer Alessandro Piretti.
